Sick Of Laptop Nerd

Posted on Friday 25 July 2008

I came across this funny comment from a guy sick of what’s really hype “electronically” these days. He’s commenting on Krames, a new “wannabe” Dj on the wave of MSTRKRFT, crookers and other Busy P.

I’m so sick of the laptop nerd gang. It’s so over. Analyze. He looks like a nerd, the music is nerdy, and I don’t need to watch him to know he’s just another one of the nerds who uses a freakin’ laptop to produce. Sitting behind a laptop on stage is not cool. Sure, a few nerds like Justice have made a name (but they are fading quickly), but this not an excuse to forget how REAL electronic music has been made since the 80’s. Also, why the hell does everyone wear all these bright colors, is this to compensate for the dark and bleak musical situation the laptop people have gotten us in?

That made me smile cause he’s true in the fact that I’m really wondering when does all that flashy colors fashion will finally fade away? Peer-to-peers are so 2000, now you can pretty much find anything you want on websites. Here’s my Friday selection.

The first track is a pure punk tune from Leeds. The rest is what the comment above is describing, e.g nerdy music done with laptops. However Fancy footwork by chromeo remixed by Crookers it’s an absolute masterpiece. Even the infamous untalented Timbaland got his horrible production reworked to make it a hit ! Imagine…

Enjoy !

Gang of Four - Damaged Goods
Chroméo - Fancy Footwork (Crookers remix)
Crookers - Purple Lens Game (The bloody Beetroots remix)
Timbaland - Miscommunication (The bloody Beetroots remix)
Sammy Bananas - All the girls
