Mashups

Things turned better after my talk last week I have to say. As a matter of fact, I got what I wanted and the atmosphere cooled down. One more line I can underline in my infinite Todo list… I also accomplished the task that was pending for at least 2 month. I am now officially resident of Iceland. It hasn’t got a great value when you think about it. Iceland is a European Economic Area and a Schengen member but not part of the European Union. So basically, non nordic citizen should get a permit to stay more than 3 months. However I’m not sure such thing is really controlled. I don’t know any student that applied for example but I’m really not an expert in paperwork issue anyway.

I’m just coming back from a meeting, which turned out to be canceled, where I met a very polite person. Yes, he even introduced himself to me and asked me questions about me as he was truly interested. I was very astonished. His name can’t be more Icelandic but I suspect him to have lived somewhere else or to be married to a foreigner. All in all, it’s refreshing to work with pleasant people.

I finished the first session of my Icelandic course. My vocabulary got slightly enriched and my thought has been structured. However my brain is still too slow to process all data when I try to hold a conversation. Most of the people (deservedly) can’t wait and go away with a “þú tala ekki íslensku…” or at best switch to english. Fortunatly for me I have a few friends patient enough to let me build phrases.
