Give Me A Break

Posted on Tuesday 27 November 2007

I’m working with people supposed to be bright but sometimes I’m wondering how it is possible to be so ignorant. I don’t know why people are always asking me questions about French social issues, politics or whatsoever. I’m kidding, that makes sense, I’m French. Luckily for them I stay in touch with inland news quite much. So I basically always know what’s happening in my home sweet home. I recall 2 years ago during riot events in France lots of people in Vaasa asked me questions about that. That was a fairly difficult issue to discuss about as the phenomenon has different sources and debated causes.
A couple of days ago, 2 kids died in a motorbike accident. Those 2 suckers were riding an illegal one-place-mini-motorbike without helmets. They bumped into a car, obviously at high speed, and died later on at hospital. It’s sad but not worth making the headlines. Unless of course the car involved was a police car. That accident, if indeed it was one, risen up a small riot in this tiny suburb town, from kids living around the blocks. I don’t want to start debating about their actions and so on but my colleague asked me:
"So, again riots, han?" "Those are Muslims doing that again, han?"
I mean seriously, what the hell? I know you’re living in earth’s ass but don’t you ever get a proper education sometimes?
How can people that knows nothing about a country history and political situation can come to such pathetic conclusions?
