Tell me how you park and I’ll tell you who you are

Posted on Friday 1 December 2006

Well, let’s not start some junk philosophy analyzing why people are parking in a way or another. But hey, I’m pretty astonished by the fact that anywhere else (yet) in such modern cities that Reykjavík is, I’ve seen people parking their car like that. I mean, when you’re a postman, or using your car as a tool for your work I can understand the need while you’re in the rush. But when you let your car in the same place for like 3 days ? What’s wrong ?!
Reykjavíkingar (Reykjavík inhabitant) are probably the worst parker I have met so far. And their vehicle are far from the common ‘Smart fortwo’ or other tiny car that I’m used to see down my native Paris. Imagine a friday night when Icelanders park their massive four-wheel drive vehicles in Laugavegur, pick up the last shopping thingie before headed towards the weekend retreat. That can be pretty funny. If I wrote this it’s simply because it’s been exactly 2 days since this car is parked right in front of my bedroom window. So I went out of the flat at midnight and took this picture. And believe me, that’s OH so typical. But to be honest: That’s the way of life I like in here.
